Jan 14, 2013 Lotus Light Responds to Extreme Weather Alert for Vancouver’s Homeless

The City of Vancouver issued an Extreme Weather Alert (“EWA”) on January 10th, which provides for 250 temporary, emergency shelter beds for Vancouver’s homeless during sub-zero temperatures, which will extend until this evening. An EWA activates the authorities in the Assistance to Shelter Act, and Police are expected to assist persons at risk. In response, dozens of Vancouver shelters and homeless outreach organizations have mobilized to fulfill the urgent need for shelter space and emergency supplies such as blankets and socks. Dec 1, 2012 Lotus Light Winter Charity Drive Sleeping Bag Distribution and Donation Program

As Vancouverites bundle up for another frosty winter, the Lotus Light Charity Society is pleased to once again support the Vancouver Police Department’s Homeless Outreach Program. On Saturday, December 1 at 2:00pm, Lotus Light will present VPD’s representatives with a donation of 250 sleeping bags and 350 winter care packages, in addition to a public distribution of 150 sleeping bags directly to the homeless at Lotus Light Charity’s head office, 347 E. Hastings Street, Vancouver.

Lotus Light Charity Society (Vancouver) is hosting its 2012 Annual Charity Gala on Sunday, December 8th at 6:00pm at Shiang Garden Seafood Restaurant, 4540 No. 3 Road, Richmond, BC. Proceeds from this special event will support Lotus Light Charity Society services and programs, and benefit the homeless and low-income families in Vancouver.

Lotus Light Charity (Vancouver) will distribute sleeping bags as well as winter care packages (winter accessories and personal hygiene items) over the coming winter months to the neediest in our community.

Lotus Light Charity's 2011 Winter Charity Drive

Lotus Light Charity Society (Vancouver) is hosting its 2011 Annual Charity Gala on Sunday, December 11th at 6:30pm at Shiang Garden Seafood Restaurant, 4540 No. 3 Road, Richmond, BC.

Proceeds from this special event will support Lotus Light Charity Society services and programs, and benefit the homeless and low-income families in Vancouver.

This year, Lotus Light Charity (Vancouver) will continue distributing sleeping bags and winter survival packs over the coming winter months to the neediest in our community. Your sponsorship of a sleeping bag ($10 each) will go a long ways to helping someone in need survive extreme weather this winter.

July 31, 2011 Lotus Light Charity Scholarship Award presented in the 10th World Peace and Harmony Ceremony

The 2011 Lotus Light Charity Scholarship Award was presented in the 10th World Peace and Harmony Ceremony on July 31st, 2011.   Six scholarship recipients and their family attended the award ceremony.

The Lotus Light Charity Society's annual scholarship program has recognized some of our brightest and most community-conscious students since 1993. This year we had nearly 250 students throughout the country apply for the scholarship. 11 bright students have been awarded after careful evaluation. The majority of this year's scholarship recipients have a grade point average of 4.0 or better.

Scholarship recipients that attended the ceremony: Caitlin S., Able T., Cindy D., Michael W., Rangolie P. and Ranita L.  (represented by her father)

Event Announcement: The 10th Peace and Harmony Ceremony

Co-sponsored in its tenth year by Lotus Light Charity Society, Lotus Light Temple, True Buddha Publication Society, PTT Buddhist Society and Tantric Buddhist Society, this year's ceremony will focus on embracing peace and bringing positive energy to a world struggling with growing uncertainty, fear, conflict, and hostility. The ceremony features a presentation of the Lotus Light Charity Society Scholarship Awards, Rice Donation to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society, and a special Buddhist Blessing Ceremony for World Peace and Harmony.

March 21 Lotus Light Charity Supporting Japan Crisis Through CMAT

Earlier this month, Japan's most powerful earthquake since records began, triggering a massive tsunami. The 9.0 magnitude tremor devastated coastal cities and infrastructure, sweeping away cars, ships and buildings north-east of Tokyo.

The Lotus Light Charity Society (“LLCS”) Vancouver chapter is proud to support the deployment of a field hospital and water purification system to Japan on Tuesday, March 22nd, through the Canadian Medical Assistance Teams (“CMAT”), a volunteer-based, non-profit organization. Read more ...

March 18 - April 29, 2011: Free Income Tax Preparation Clinic

Lotus Light Charity Society, in conjunction with the CRA Community Volunteer Income Tax Program, is pleased to offer free income tax return preparation for low-income residents, seniors and students (some restrictions apply). Please bring all your T-slips, 2010 tax return with "Notice of Assessment", and new tax return.

Tax Clinic hours are Friday and Saturday afternoons, 1:30pm - 4pm, from March 18 - April 29, 2011.

In the spirit of its motto "Through caring and learning, we help to build a better tomorrow." Lotus Light Charity Society helps to educate its members and the public about the social value and importance of community charity work by initiating public projects with other community members.

Any student who is 17 years or older and will be beginning or continuing their studies at a recognized post-secondary educational institution on a full-time basis may be eligible to receive a $300 scholarship to assist in those studies. Applicants will be assessed on scholastic record and community involvement.

PLEASE NOTE: Students who have completed or are in their final years of their post-secondary study at the closing date of the application period are not eligible.

Application submission for the 2011 period is March 1 to May 15, 2011; successful applicants will be notified in early July.

All applications must be submitted via postal mail or drop-off (i.e. no email submissions, no fax submissions), addressed as follows:

(1) Up-to-date official transcript of grades.
(2) Proof of acceptance for entry and/or current enrolment at a recognized post-secondary educational institution.

(4) Current letters of reference from previous employers, teachers, or volunteer organizations.
