Any student who is 17 years or older and will be
beginning or continuing their studies at a
recognized post-secondary educational institution on
a full-time basis may be eligible to
receive a $300 scholarship to assist in those
studies. Applicants will be assessed on
scholastic record and community involvement.
PLEASE NOTE: Students who have completed or are in
their final years of studies at the
closing date of the application period are not
eligible.
Application submission for the 2010 period is March
1 to May 15; successful applicants
will be notified later.
All applications must be submitted via postal mail
or drop-off (i.e. no email submissions,
no fax submissions), addressed as follows:

- Up-to-date official transcript of grades.
- Proof of acceptance for entry and/or current

March 12 - April 24,
2010: Free Income Tax Preparation Clinic
Lotus Light Charity Society, in conjunction with
the CRA Community Volunteer Income Tax Program, is
pleased to offer free income tax return preparation
for low-income residents, seniors and students (some
restrictions apply). Please bring all your T-slips,
2009 tax return with "Notice of Assessment", and new
tax return.
Tax Clinic hours are Friday and Saturday
afternoons, 1pm - 4pm, from March 12 - April 24,
2010.
In the spirit of its motto "Through caring and
learning, we help to build a better tomorrow." Lotus
Light Charity Society helps to educate its members
and the public about the social value and importance
of community charity work by initiating public
projects with other community members.

20, 2010: LLCS distributed Brand New Sleeping Bags
to Homeless
Vancouver temperature was chilly past 2 weeks
down to 0-2 C. Perfect time for Lotus Light Charity
Society to distribute brand new sleeping bags to
Vancouver Downtown Eastside Homeless on Saturday,
Feb20th at the new activity room of Oppenheimer
Park.
Oppenheimer Park staff, Sandy and Carneige
Community Association, Ethel, presented a
certificate of recognition to Vajra Master Lian Tzi,
President of LLCS, to thank LLCS for vital
contributions to the community. LLCS had the honor
to have invited Vancouver Councillor Ellen
Woodsworth to join Vajra Master Lian Tzi to do the
distribution.

People who lived around this community lined up
for the 300 sleeping bags, each bag with LLCS
official logo imprint. Event started fom 2pm to 4pm.
The people expressed thanks to Master Lian Tzi and
Ellen for giving them the sleeping bags. After
sleeping bag distribution, bags of personal hygiene
necessities were given out. Each bag contains a
comb, tissue napkin, a pair of socks, a towel, etc.
At the charity office on E.Hastings St, sleeping
bags were picked up by YWCA Crabtree Corner, The
Gathering Place, and Family Services North Shore.
These organizations assist low-income families and
homeless people in their areas. This event was a
success with many volunteers' support.

Raising 20,000 Lb Rice to Help Haiti Orphanage
On Jan 12, 2010 Haiti was been hit hard by a 7.0
Earthquake. With life lost estimated to reach
200,000, people been affected about 3 million, more
than one third of Haiti's population.
Volunteers of Lotus Light Charity Society fundraised
at the Emperor Supermarket of Richmond last weekend
and will continue fundraising on Jan 23 and 24
afternoon at Richmond Aberdeen center and Jan 23 at
Emperor Supermarket Richmond. The fund raised will
be used to purchase 20,000 Lb rice for Heart to
Heart Ministries to help the Heart to Heart Haiti
Orphanage and the earthquake victims around Grand
Grove area.
The Heart to Heart Orphanage is located in Grand
Grove, 20km west of the Leogane, the epicentre of
the earthquake, and about 40km west of the capital.
The Heart to Heart Haiti Orphanage has about 100
kids and has also 300 kids from the neighborhood.
Heart to Heart Haiti school is severely damaged.
They are struggling to feed their starving kids and
help the surrounding affected community as well.

The Heart to Heart Ministries and Abbotsford
Vineyard Church are sending 10 containers of rescue
materials including rice, flour, Gatorade, oat meal,
and medical supplies to help Heart to Heart Haiti
Orphanage and the surrounding earthquake Victims.
Lotus Light Charity Society will continue their
fundraising and welcome donations in cash, check,
credit card or wire transfer. Please make check

Haiti Earthquake Relief in the Memo.

Charity Fundraising Gala
Lotus Light Charity Society Vancouver cordially
invites you to its 2009 Winter Charity Gala to
benefit the homeless in Vancouver’s Downtown
Eastside.

 Proceeds from this special event will benefit Lotus
Light Charity Society’s 2009 Winter Charity Drive,
to purchase much needed warm winter items like
sleeping bags and blankets, for distribution to the
Vancouver lower mainland’s homeless to survive the
winter.
2009 LLCS Winter Charity
Drive
The Lotus Light Winter Charity Drive has raised
community awareness and benefited Vancouver’s
homeless each year since 1995, and has distributed
more than 160,000 winter garments and non-perishable
food items since its inception. In 2008, over 10,000
items of warm clothing and non-perishable food items
were distributed to Carnegie Community Centre
Association and 9 other shelters and local community
service centres. This year, Lotus Light Charity
Society will continue to distribute winter survival
packs with help from our community partner, the
Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society.
The Lotus Light Charity Society (LLCS) is an
international charitable organization founded in
Vancouver in 1993 by Buddhist Grandmaster Sheng-yen
Lu, with over 90 chapters throughout the world. Each
chapter supports local causes and contributes to
global causes such as earthquake and famine. LLCS is
also an active supporter of other charity
organizations, including Quest Outreach Society,
Doctors Without Borders, BC Cancer Society, BC
Children’s Hospital, and many others at the
community, provincial, and national levels.
 We look forward to sharing with you this special
moment of community caring. Together, we can indeed
make a difference in the lives of some of our less
