Lotus Light Charity
Supporting Japan Crisis Through CMAT
Earlier this month, Japan's most powerful earthquake
since records began, triggering a massive tsunami.
The 9.0 magnitude tremor devastated coastal cities
and infrastructure, sweeping away cars, ships and
buildings north-east of Tokyo.
The Lotus Light Charity Society (“LLCS”)
Vancouver chapter is proud to support the deployment
of a field hospital and water purification system to
Japan on Tuesday, March 22nd, through the Canadian
Medical Assistance Teams (“CMAT”), a
volunteer-based, non-profit organization.
A skilled team of medical professionals, with
training in chemical, biological, radiological,
nuclear and explosive (CBRNE) events has been
reassembled, and has been equipped with the
appropriate monitoring and personal protective
equipment. The CMAT Rapid Assessment Team has been
working tirelessly since its return from Tokyo a few
days ago. With expert guidance and utilizing
Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission guidelines, the
advance team has left Vancouver for Tokyo on Sunday
to liaise with partners already on the ground, as
well as government representatives to establish a
final destination for the field hospital.
Lotus Light Charity Society has committed $5,000
towards the project, and continues its appeal to the
public for donations to help send urgent medical aid
for the Japan Crisis. Please donate generously.
LLCS will continue its fundraising events at
local shopping centers and food markets throughout
the Lower Mainland. The charity accepts donations
in cash, check, credit card or wire transfer. Please
make check payable to: Lotus Light Charity Society,
